How do I apply for the next NAT class? (Most ask, “How do I get into or sign up for the next class?”)

o       You must apply for a spot in the class.  Complete an employment application one of 2 ways:

§         Apply in person at the front desk from 8am to 8pm, or

§         Go to brothersofmercy.org via the Internet, under the employment section print the application and either mail it in or hand deliver it.

Does filling out an application guarantee me a spot in the class?

o       No, applications are processed and interviews conducted.  Candidates are selected from the pool of applicants.  Students are employees of the Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Do you conduct interviews on the spot?

o       No

How do I “check the status of my application”?

o       Once applications are processed, we may call you and do a telephone screening.  If appropriate, an interview may be set up.  Not all applicants who are interviewed will be selected for the class.

How often are classes conducted?

o       Approximately every 5 wks

Are we on a bus route?

o       No

What are the class days and times

o       In general, classes are conducted Monday through Friday at times ranging from 6:30am to 3:30pm for approximately 19 – 21 days.  One day of General Orientation is required and may be conducted on a Saturday.  There is a combination of both classroom study and clinical experience as outlined by New York State.

Do I have to attend every day?

o       Yes.  If any time is missed, you may be subject to termination from the class for not meeting the required hours.

How much are students paid?

o       Minimum wage, currently $7.25/hour, for the duration of the class, with the exception of the testing day for which you are not paid.  Your testing fees are paid by the facility.

If I am hired, what will I need to do?

o       Produce an ORIGINAL Social Security card as proof of identity

o       Produce a State issued current (non-expired) picture ID as proof of identity

o       Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity as required by the NYS Department of Health.

o       You are subject to a Criminal Background Check provided by the Brothers of Mercy.

o       A pre-employment physical will be provided by Brothers of Mercy

What are the scheduling requirements after certification?

o       It is required that all NATs work a rotation of 2 weekends on / one weekend off for the first three months of employment.  A monetary bonus may be paid if all conditions are met.

What are some of the other requirements?

o       You must be able to read, write, speak, communicate and understand the English language.  The NYS issued written test is administered at a ninth grade reading level.

o       Must possess the ability to: relate to and work with ill, disabled elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility, follow written and oral instructions.

o       Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

o       In Clarence, NY at 10570 Bergtold Rd, 14031, off Ransom Rd between Main St. and Genesee. 

Do you have other locations?

o       No, we are an independent facility.
